What is a Self-Watering Planter?

A self watering planter is a planter or pot that keeps your plants watered, usually for 1-3 weeks, without the need for daily watering. Self watering planters have a water reservoir at the bottom of the planter that feeds the plant from the bottom up. The wicking chambers allow water from the reservoir to deliver a consistent level of moisture directly to the root system, ensuring optimal plant growth. Simply fill the planters with a garden hose once every couple of weeks and your plants will stay adequately watered, even in the hottest months of the year.

In self-watering planters, plants are hydrated via a reservoir inside the planter or pot. The planter’s reservoir is filled up weekly (or even less frequently with larger planters) and the soil draws the water up using capillary action. This type of watering offers many advantages: less water use, better plant health, fewer leaf/stem problems and less labor.
